Is Favre to the Vikings all but official?

I’ll be honest, I think last night was the first time I was interested enough in a talk show that I followed it live via a blog.  That’s what happens I guess when Brett Favre breaks his off-season silence by going on HBO, a channel that I along with many other of you don’t get on our cable system (by the way, what a score for the writers/producers of “Joe Buck Live” to have that press go along with the show’s debut).

I was able to watch and listen to the entire interview afterwards and the one conclusion I came to is that I will be a whole lot more surprised if Favre did NOT play for the Vikings this season versus staying retired.  He used the word “we” in describing the situation Minnesota is in for the upcoming year.

When asked what’s stopping him from playing for the Vikings, he said the main worry is the status of his throwing shoulder.  He did get surgery to repair it and will find out in another 3 weeks or so whether it was successful.  But what I gathered was simple, a healthy throwing arm equals number 4 playing for the Purple and Gold in 2009.

And how about all the damage control he did in regards to Packers fans who are ready to forget all about his career the moment he signs a contract with the Vikings.  Favre said there are no hard feelings toward Vince Lombardi, and he left Green Bay to coach in Washington.  As he put it, “time heals a lot”.

I’d like to hear what you think about all of this.  Are we going to see Brett playing for the Vikings by the end of July?

What’s my personal opinion?  As a Packers fan I won’t be burning all my Brett Favre memorabilia if he signs with the Vikings but I sure won’t look at him the same way I did just a couple of years ago.  He’s already tarnished his legacy in my eyes over the whole summer of ‘08 but I’m willing to forgive and forget what was a misjudgement on his part in thinking he was ready to retire.  But this takes it to a whole other level.  Going to the team that is one of, if not the biggest rival of the Packers is kind of like spitting in the faces of every Green Bay fan even though his intent may be in spite of Ted Thompson.  Brett - just don’t test the adage that time heals a lot of wounds, because you may just end up being surprised.

I can not believe you actually said what you just said about Spitting in the face of Packer Fans …Brett Favre owes the Packer Fans nothing he gave the Packer Fans the best years of his life and career. Shame on you and Ted Thompson. It is a job and his life. I am a Packer Fan and will always be a Packer Fan however Go Brett Go and thanks for the memories.Brett - just don’t test the adage that time heals a lot of wounds, because you may just end up being surprised. You are pathetic I bet this will keep him awake nights! It must be a relief for a player to go to a team that is not owned by fans since everyone wants to be your boss!
PS: I would watch you on channel 19 too

    Rita-
Loved the last line!!! I admit I may be over-reacting but I know I’m not alone.

I would just hate all he did for the Packers get tarnished (to what degree, we’ll find out) with 1 or maybe 2 seasons in Minnesota, that’s all I’m trying to say.

Thanks for reading and thanks for the post.

I agree with Rita, go, Brett, Go! You can’t believe how many Packer fans and Vikings fans who are looking forward to football if Brett signs with the Vikings. I, too, will always be a Packer fan, just not crazy about the management right now) and I’ve got nothing against the Vikings, I just want to watch Brett play one more season and I’ll buy one more #4 jersey. If you read the newspaper, Packers only earned four million this past year, they had nineteen million when Brett played for them. Shouldn’t that tell you where most of the fans are loyal to?
