Favre vs. Manning

Ok, this blog is about a week late but give me a break it’s the holidays.  For years fans of Brett Favre have been screaming this phrase (or something similar to it): “only 3 time MVP in NFL history”.  It was a great claim to fame for a great player.  Except the statement doesn’t hold true anymore.  Peyton Manning matched the feat last week when he was awarded his 3rd NFL MVP trophy.

So here’s a new phrase for Favre fans to hang their cheese heads on: “only person in NFL history to win 3 CONSECUTIVE MVP awards”.  Favre won the award in 1995, ‘96, and ‘97 (he shared the award with Barry Sanders in ‘97.)  Manning won consecutive MVP’s in 2003 and 2004 (he shared the award with Steve McNair in 2003).  Now, 4 years after winning his second, Manning has returned to win a 3rd MVP award.

But here is the question: which run is more impressive?  Do you favor a 3 year run of domination?  Or are you one to side with longevity?  Both quarterbacks have won 3, both have shared the award one of the years, the only difference is the time frame.  Discuss……

I’m a lifelong fan of Brett Favre and I don’t think you can take away the achievement of 3 consecutive MVPs. I think the longevity is more impressive because it proves Manning was at the top of his game for a long period of time.

I don’t really see a difference between the two. If Favre would have continued to play at the level he was when the Jets were 8-3 and had the team on the verge of a playoff berth, he might have won his 4th. I’m a Favre fan, but a lot of his records are purely a result of the longevity of his career. Manning is an impressive quarterback because of his knowledge of the game. With that said, both quarterbacks will go down as two of the best in history, but maybe could have won more championships. With just 1 Super Bowl win each, it’s quite possible to say that perhaps they have underachieved.

Why does everybody forget about Johnny Unitas?
Farve was not the only three-time MVP. Unitas did it way before him.

Johnny Unitas only won 2 in 64 and 67, you should really check your facts before you say something like that. Favre’s Streak is more impressive because Antonio Freeman Nor Robert Brooks will never see their names on a hall of fame roster (he won the Superbowl without brooks btw) Marvin Harrison is a first ballot hall of famer and Reggie Wayne is a top tier wide out.

In my own opinion your seeing a changing of era,

In 1966 Bart Starr threw for 2257 Yards and won MVP
In 1997 Brett Favre threw for 3867 Yards and won MVP
In 2007 Tom Brady threw for 4806 Yards and won MVP

The NFL is changing the changes in rules every year to make it more offense friendly clearly proves that.

So in my own opinion your trying to compare someone from the 90’s to someone from the 2000 era
