This past Friday night, we held our annual WKBT-TV Fantasy Baseball draft. This is a league I have been running for about the past 5 years now. The NewsChannel 8 sports department currently holds bragging rights as Aaron Matas won last season and I took the title the year before that. But even if I finish in last place, this is always a fun part of my year.
It may be too late for this season, but I suggest to everybody who likes playing Fantasy Football to give Fantasy Baseball a try. I’ll quickly list some of the positives:
1) Baseball is a long season, but being in a league will keep your interest the entire year.
2) Another excuse to get a night to hook up with friends for the draft along with some good conversation from March-through-October. My league has many former co-workers and colleagues so it’s a great vehicle for all of us to stay in contact.
3) It’s a great thing to have when you have a couple of minutes to kill at your computer. Also there is nothing like a live box score to check on just about every day.
4) If you don’t have the time to set a lineup every single day, you can do weekly settings (this is what we do since lots of us either go camping or take vacation during the summer months).
So if you never thought about starting a Fantasy Baseball league, I hope that I maybe gave you something to think about here. For those of you who are already active players, I’ll hopefully have another article in the near future breaking down the first couple of rounds along with a look at my complete roster.
